Nintendo held a press conference in Japan last night and announced a plethora of fantastic upcoming items of sheer coolness. IGN Wii has a live blog of the event posted, and I’ll throw out some links to some of the highlights here.
- Sonic is officially in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Check out the intro movie here. All of his sound effects appear to be derived from Sonic 1 for the Genesis. Classy.
- Monster Hunter 3 — previously set to arrive on the PS3 — is now coming to the Wii. According to Capcom, they’ve shifted development over completely.
- A new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game will appear solely on the WiiWare channel for $15. It’s title will supposedly be Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Little King and the Promised Country.
- A new online multiplayer Dr. Mario game was confirmed for WiiWare, as well.
- Two more Wii channels announced, including the previously hinted-at Mii popularity contest channel and an update to the Everybody Votes channel that will include a database of game reviews and opinions. There will also be a channel to download Nintendo DS demos.
- Super Mario Stadium Baseball was announced.
And these are just the things that I think are cool. There’s probably other announcements Nintendo made that other people would find exciting, but personally, this makes my week.
