And technically, Harlyn won&#8217;t hit thirty days until tomorrow. But it&#8217;s my blog and I can post it if I want to. Keep in mind, poetry is not necessarily my strong suit. <strong>Enjoy!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Right now, as I write this, you lay next to me.<br \/>\nJust wiggling by the light of my warm laptop screen.<br \/>\nIn the past thirty days, you&#8217;ve cooed, stared, and explored.<br \/>\nYou&#8217;ve cried, burped, and pooped: you&#8217;d think we were bored.<\/p>\n<p>Alas, quite the opposite, if I say so myself!<br \/>\nWe have quite a few things on our &#8220;need to do&#8221; shelf.<br \/>\nCaleb starts back to school, Alex is active as ever.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;re selling our house (which might happen, oh, <em>never<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>But on the day you arrived, I shed tears of joy.<br \/>\nI was prepared for a third &#8211; and, yes, <em>final<\/em> &#8211; baby <em>boy<\/em>.<br \/>\nI so wanted a girl, you fulfilled my heart&#8217;s craving.<br \/>\nSomething so small, so sweet, so amazing.<\/p>\n<p>In your first week you hardly even opened your eyes.<br \/>\nIn your second, I noticed how quickly time flies.<br \/>\nThe third week, I told myself it wasn&#8217;t a dream.<br \/>\nNow the fourth week, I&#8217;m convinced. We&#8217;re an inseparable team.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll protect you from boys (we&#8217;re really quite vile).<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll give you lots of toys (we&#8217;ll add them to the pile).<br \/>\nAnd I&#8217;ll watch and I&#8217;ll worry every day of your life.<br \/>\nAll the way to the day you make someone their wife.<\/p>\n<p>For now, life is filled, once again, with a baby.<br \/>\nDiapers are filled, too, but maybe &#8211; just maybe,<br \/>\nWe can look forward to days where we laugh hard and deep.<br \/>\nFor now, please allow us a few hours of sleep.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an enormous effort to have a baby to raise.<br \/>\n(But mostly for mommy; she deserves all the praise).<br \/>\nThe days, they drift by in a soft, gentle flow.<br \/>\nAlready your birthday seems a lifetime ago.<\/p>\n<p>So here we both are, just thirty days later.<br \/>\nYou&#8217;ve already made my life that much greater.<br \/>\nAnd though I&#8217;m exhausted and my mind is in tatters,<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re my beautiful girl, and that&#8217;s all that matters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/pixy.gif?x-id=63ea869b-111c-88e4-9512-402803952b82\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I actually wrote most of this a couple of days ago.
