Starting sometime tomorrow, November 1st, this blog will be the chronicle of Eleanor as she helps the last remnants of humanity find a new home. This will be a heavily modified NaNoWriMo attempt, where every day’s contribution is either a blog post or an illustration, each post telling, showing, and progressing the story in some meaningful way.
(In other words, I’m not aiming for a 1,667-word daily total, or even a 50,000-word end goal. Just a blog post/illustration per day for the entirety of NaNoWriMo.)
The posts will be journals from Eleanor as she chronicles her adventures living in the hollowed-out head of an old beaten-up military sentinel. She’s been wandering space alone for years, making her way down the Yellow Brick Road, raiding supply couriers and genships, and trying to avoid pesky military cruisers. All the while feeling slightly suspicious about the alleged “goldilocks planet” that all of humanity has set its sights towards. Why did her father abandon a genship when she was just a little girl? And why did he take her with him, dooming her to a life floating through the emptiness of space, with only a ship servbot as a companion?
All of these questions — and more! — will be answered as Goldilocks unfolds over the course of the coming NaNoWriMo month. Enjoy!
